I am an MSci Physics candidate at Queen’s University Belfast (2015-19) intending to pursue a PhD in atomic or nuclear physics.

My study has so far included:

  • Astrophysics;
  • Atomic & nuclear physics;
  • Computational modelling (incl. C and Python);
  • Crystallography;
  • Electrostatics and magnetostatics;
  • Optics;
  • Solid state physics;
  • Special relativity;
  • Statistical mechanics;
  • Thermodynamics & phase changes; and
  • Quantum mechanics;

Experiments performed in Year 2 included 6-hour investigations into, and papers or public presentations on:

  • Blackbody radiation;
  • Compton scattering;
  • Faraday & Pockel effects;
  • Fourier optics;
  • Electrical transport & Hall effect;
  • Scanning tunnelling microscopy;
  • Stern-Gerlach experiment;
  • Redshift & supernovae;
  • X-ray crystallography; and
  • Zeeman effect;

In Year 1 I performed 20+ 3-hour experiments, verifying various laws, effects and constants.
